First Private Museum "FORD and Bulgaria"
The first private museum in Bulgaria was established on the territory of the Moto-Pfohe company complex in the Lyulin district of the capital. Opened on May 14, 1998, it was also the only one of its kind outside the Henry Ford Museum in Greenfield Village, Detroit, USA, at the time. It presented curious information about the development and establishment of the world-famous automotive brand in our country from 1911 to the end of the 20th century.
The special exhibition traced the life and activities of Henry Ford – the automotive entrepreneur and businessman of the 20th century – and his creation, the Ford Motor Company.
An entirely new exhibition, "Timeline", was created in May 2011 in connection with the 20th anniversary of Moto-Pfohe. At the museum area in the Lyulin company complex in Sofia, 444 Slivnitsa Blvd., the history of the automobile from the 1860s to the end of the first decade of the 21st century is presented by decades. The focus is on the brands represented by the company – Ford, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover – as well as the development of Moto-Pfohe and its parent company, Hugo-Pfohe, Germany. The exhibition begins its "story" with the great discoveries of the 19th century that influenced the emergence of the car and highlights people and events over the years that became emblems of their respective decades.
A multimedia system provides additional illustrations and videos of the most important automotive events.
The centerpiece of both the previous and the new exhibition consists of two Ford Model A cars from 1928 and 1930, restored by Moto-Pfohe specialists, as well as a 1988 Ford Scorpio – the first car sold in Bulgaria by Mr. Karl-Heinz Pfohe in 1989, before the company was established.
Guest exhibitions related to the automobile and its history are periodically arranged in the exhibition area. This is also a venue for many cultural events – book promotions, art exhibitions, and meetings with journalists and friends.
The Moto-Pfohe museum exhibition is open from Monday to Friday, between 10:00 and 17:00. Group visits with a guided tour are also accepted; bookings can be made by calling 02-9842301.
